Image Processing: Corrects the “black edge on highlights” issue that may occur on high-brightness transitions when shooting with HyperGamma or S-Log2 gamma.
Operational Improvements: New software prevents the camera from occasionally freezing when holding down any of the following keys: PREV, EXT, F.FWD, PAUSE, STOP, THUMBNAIL
RDD 18 – Gamma for CDL – Data Accuracy Improvement: The value registered for “Gamma for CDL” (as specified in SMPTE RDD-18 – Acquisition Metadata Sets for Video Camera Parameters) is corrected to “Content Video.” Previously, the value was incorrectly registered as “S-Log2.”
Audio Rec Port Name Correction: The Content Browser preview window now correctly displays “ANALOG” for Audio Channel 1/2 and “OTHERS” for other channels. Previously, the AV Format tab always displayed the Audio Rec Port name as “DIRECT” on the Content Browser window.
Extended UMID – Source Pack – Time and Date: The camera’s UMID (Unique Material Identifier) Time Zone is changed according to the setting of the camera’s System Clock. Previously, an error was found in the description of the metadata (compliant with SMPTE ST 330 – Unique Material Identifier) where the Time Zone indication was always UTC-09:00 Alaska.
Salvaged Clip Playback Improvements: Resolved two issues where (1) the camera fails to play back a salvaged clip of fifteen minutes or longer and (2) Content Browser fails to play back a salvaged clip.
SxS Card Corruption When Using Content Browser for Mac v2.0: Fixes an issue where the SxS card becomes inaccessible by the camera after using SxS adapter models SBAC-US10 for browsing and playing back clips on a Mac lacking SxS UDF driver version 2.11. (Note: To prevent data corruption of SxS cards captured using cameras with firmware versions prior to v1.10, Sony recommends installing SxS UDF driver v2.11 for Mac.)
You can download the appropriate firmware for your F5 or F55 over on the Sony Community Site. On this page you can also find a new firmware update for the AXS-R5 recorder, as well as more detailed release notes.
Once you’ve downloaded the v1.10 firmware, watch my video above for a quick step-by-step guide to getting your F5/F55 up to date.
Edit: In the video, Ian says to use SxS cards to perform the firmware update. Actually, you need to use SDHC cards in order to complete it correctly. The rest of the process is identical.
