Though only shipping their Cinema Camera in limited quantities, Blackmagic is already staying one step ahead by releasing new firmware, version 1.1. Included in this update is Avid DNxHD MOV support, which is a nice compliment to the original ProRes and RAW functionality. This will be especially helpful for Avid users who want to work directly with the files that come straight out of the camera. The new firmware also adds support for EF lenses with IS (image stabilization), as well as an increased number of shutter angles. Joe Marine over at NoFilmSchool rounded up some test videos of the new firmware that show a comparison of Blackmagic camera footage with and without the image stabilization.
Firmware version 1.1 is for the EF-mount version of the Cinema Camera only (though the MFT version is still expected for the end of the year) and can be downloaded from Blackmagic’s Support Site.
