Today Canon announced details of their expanding line of Cinema optics. At NAB this year, they showed off two new lightweight, compact cinema zooms. The CN-15.5-47mm T2.8 L and the CN-E 30-105mm T2.8 both cover beyond Super-35 (31.4mm image circle, full coverage of RED 5K), weigh just 4.8lbs, and are less than nine inches in length. The front diameter for both zooms is 114mm (internal threading for 105mm front filter), and both lenses focus to two feet or less from the image plane with minimal image breathing. They also feature 11-blade irises and 300-degree rotation on the focus ring. The new zooms will be available in PL or EF mounts and are expected to ship in November (15.5-47) and January (30-105) with a list price of $24,500 each.
Also announced today were two additional Cinema Prime lenses. A 14mm T3.1 and 135mm T2.2 will join the three previously announced primes: the 24mm T1.5, 50mm T1.3 and 85mm T1.3. These lenses all cover the Full Frame 35 stills format (36mm x 24mm, aka VistaVision) of the Canon 5D Mark III, and feature full manual control of focus and iris with geared rings. The 14mm & 135mm Canon Cinema Primes are expected to ship in the first half of next year.
