Fall 2008 marks the debut of two next-gen VariCams from Panasonic. Building on the legacy of the original VariCam, the VariCam 2700 and VariCam 3700 add more features, new codecs, enhanced imaging capabilities, and all the benefits of P2 solid-state technology.

In this video, Abel’s own Andy Shipsides takes you through the new features of VariCam 2700.

Part I

Andy discusses the benefits of P2 solid-state recording with the VariCam 2700. He takes you through the new recording formats that are available, as well as the amazing AVC-Intra codec – a 10-bit full-raster, 4:2:2, D5 grade codec that’s suitable for the highest-quality applications.

Part II

Here, Andy takes you through the numerous improvements to the VariCam 2700’s design. These range from physical characteristics, such as changes to the body design and output options, to image enhancing features, such as additional gamma modes, Dynamic Range Stretcher and Chromatic Aberration Compensation.

CORRECTION: In Part II, Andy states that the VariCam comes with a black-and-white viewfinder. This is incorrect; the viewfinder is actually an optional accessory.
