At NAB last month, Zeiss introduced an updated version of their popular Arri/Zeiss LWZ-1 zoom. The new LWZ.2 is a 15.5-45mm zoom that features outstanding image quality and is available in multiple, interchangeable mounts (PL, EF, F). Perfect for use with HDSLR cameras such as the Canon 7D, as well as more traditional cine cameras, the lens covers the full Super-35 frame and weighs only about 4.4 pounds (2 kg). Read Zeiss’s full press release on the LWZ.2 lightweight zoom here.

Mitch got a chance to get some hands-on time with the LWZ.2 at Zeiss’s booth – check out his video on Vimeo or YouTube.

A couple of months ago, Mitch did a video discussing the Outsource Creamsource LED Light. At NAB this year, Abel showed it off in our booth and Digital Cinema Society’s president James Mathers took some time to interview its creators. Tama Berkeljon and Sasha Marks of Outsight demonstrate the versatility and key features of the light, as well as talk a little more about how they designed it.

Last week we posted a great video of Digital Cinema Society‘s James Mathers interviewing VRI’s Rick Robinson about Phantom Flex. In another installation from their NAB 2010 series, James talks with Mitch Gross at the Abel booth about the new Schneider Cine Xenar prime lenses. These lenses come standard in PL mount, but are also available in Canon and Nikon mount. Check out the video for more in-depth info from Mitch (and a guest appearance by the HDx2!)

At this year’s NAB Show there were countless 3D rigs, monitors, and image processors. 3D capture technology is evolving at an extraordinary pace, and in many different directions. Mitch and I got to check out some of the smaller, more affordable 3D devices that could make a big splash in 3D production.

First up is the Panasonic 3D camera, the AG-3DA1. This little guy was first revealed at NAB 2009, and is now only a few months away from being released. Watch the video to see the camera up close in the Panasonic booth:

Last year Dedolight introduced the clever, on-camera Ledzilla LED light. Ledzilla features the award-winning Dedo condenser lens technology for focusing and has removable barndoor and filter attachments for shaping the light. These front end attachments can be removed from Ledzilla so that a new line of accessories can be mounted as needed. Watch the video to see the entire line of Ledzilla attachments.
