Arri recently released their latest Software Update Packet, which adds DNxHD 444 high-speed recording to the ALEXA XT, along with various bug fixes. SUP v9.1 is available as a free download from the ARRI website for current ALEXA owners.
In the previous SUP 9.0, 10-bit DNxHD 444 was added as a recording option to all ALEXA cameras. With this new update, DNxHD 444 can now be recorded (on ALEXA XT only) up to 96 fps on XR Capture Drives, up to 90 fps on 120 GB CFast 2.0 cards, up to 60 fps on 64 GB SxS Pro cards, and up to 30 fps on 32 GB SxS Pro cards. The following new functions and improvements are also included in SUP 9.1:
• Improved audio monitoring quality
• Optimized DNxHD A/V sync
• Improved playback stability
• Increased ProRes encoder stability
• Fixes for timecode and clip metadata
To download SUP v9.1, ALEXA owners must log in after completing a one-time registration on the Arri website. The file can then be downloaded to an SD card for uploading into the camera.
Important note: The ALEXA XT/XR module cameras and the ALEXA Classic have different installation packages, both of which can be found on Arri’s downloads page. Do not attempt to install the XT SUP on ALEXA Classic cameras, ALEXA HD, ALEXA HD Plus, ALEXA Fiber Remote or ALEXA Fiber Remote Plus cameras. Doing so can result in a camera malfunction, which will require the camera being sent to an Arri Service Center for recovery.
