Arri has had a super useful Photometric calculator – designed to let lighting designers see the full output of specific lighting products – available on their website for some time. To use it, simply select the lamphead you desire, then input the lens, lamp, and focus position. The tool will then calculate the data and show you the maximum illuminance levels, half peak angles, beam diameters and much more.

Well, now you can have this functionality in your pocket at all times, thanks to Arri’s Photometrics mobile app. It features all of the same information as the website tool, including the ability to see specs on everything from the LED L-7 series to classic tungsten fresnels. This app is especially handy since we all know how ubiquitous smartphones have become on sets these days. Make sure to check out the screenshots above for a preview of what the app will look like on your iPhone, and see below for a look at the iPad version.

The Arri Photometrics app is available for free from the iTunes store, but your device must be running iOS 7.0 or later.

Are there any other useful apps you love having on set? Let us know and we’ll add them to our list of the Best iPhone Apps for the Modern Cinematographer
