As the saying goes, there’s no rest for the weary, and that was certainly the case with Sony this weekend. Late Friday evening, Sony revealed several new updates to the F5 & F55 feature set that definitely come as a nice surprise. The biggest announcement is that, starting with the release of firmware version 1.3 in September, the F5 will support the same high frame rates as the F55 in 2K Raw – meaning you will be able to shoot HFR increments of 120p, 180p, and 240p, with S&Q mode coming at a later date. Additionally, both cameras will add support for the popular Fujinon Cabrio lenses with start/stop trigger from the lens and paintbox iris control.

Due before the end of the month, firmware version 1.2 will include the SR codec, which has been a long-time favorite as a mastering and deliverable format, and is identical to the SR-SQ mode on the F65. You’ll need to use SR viewer and the SR plugins for your NLE, which can be found on Sony’s Creative Software site, under “SR Software”.

Additional details and a new firmware roadmap can be found over at the Sony Community.
