Way back in January, we wrote about Blackmagic Design’s HyperDeck Shuttle 2, the sucessor to the original HyperDeck Shuttle SSD recorder. Since then, the Shuttle 2 has become one of the most popular options for those who want a compact, portable recording solution. Just recently, Blackmagic announced software update 3.6, which introduces an exciting new feature: support for ProRes 422 (HQ). If your camera is capable of outputting it via HD/SDI or HDMI, you can now record 1080p up to 4:2:2, along with 10-bit uncompressed and DNxHD MXF. This also means that users will benefit from smaller file sizes, as well as having greater direct-to-edit compatibility with Final Cut Pro.
Other updates in 3.6 include:
- ProRes HQ support
- Improved closed captioning support
- Improved MXF file structure
- Fix for the SDI payload issue with 1080/50i
Users can download update 3.6 from Blackmagic’s support site; also available is an updated manual.
