Codex has been working with the Canon C500 for some time now, and at NAB they showed off some examples of what they’ve come up with. Now they have announced the Codex Onboard S will also be able to record in Canon RAW. The compact Onboard S can record the C500’s Canon RAW format all the way up to 120fps onto a single Capture Drive. The C500 outputs full 4K RAW up to 60p in 4096×2160 mode, and 120fps in 4096×1080 mode. The Onboard S can record the raw data out of the camera into it’s Virtual File System (VFS), which allows for easy generation of dailies into ProRes, DNxHD and other formats.

Along with Canon RAW support, the Onboard S also supports ARRIRAW up to 60 fps in 16:9 mode, and up to 48 fps in 4:3 mode. Codex recorders have been used with the Arri Alexa on many big films like The Avengers and on TV shows like Game of Thrones. No doubt the Onboard S will be used with the C500 in many of the same applications. Codex will be showing the Onboard S with the C500 at IBC. Learn more about the Codex and the C500 in our upcoming Raw Worksop with Geoff Boyle next weekend.
