Last year, Hive Lighting showed us a prototype of their plasma light technology. Now Hive has debuted a lineup of production fixtures: a fresnel, par, sealed par pair, and even a retrofit kit for ellipsoidal fixtures. Plasma lights use a tiny glass bulb filled with gas. When that gas is bombarded with microwaves, the gas changes state to a plasma and in the process emits an enormous amount of photons. The resulting light is daylight balanced, very high CRI and flicker free. It is also about twice as bright as a similar wattage HMI. Watch the video to see my interview with Jonathan Miller, co-founder of Hive Lighting and learn more about this unique new technology.
