Do you know if Premiere CS5.5 on a Mac can edit DNxHD files? Thanks.

Premiere CS5.5 doesn’t natively support DNxHD, but you can download Avid QuickTime Codecs LE for drag-and-drop editing in Premiere. http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=392959. For what it’s worth, the QuickTime codecs works well on my OS X 10.6.8 MBP, but I couldn’t get it installed on a Lion MBP…

Do you think they will release Apple prores compressed options?

Hey so what’s the workflow for using this DNxHD in premier? Does the the Shuttle record in quicktime or do you have to convert it somehow for it to be edit ready?

To clarify, I read online that its DNxHD “wrapped” in an MXF file as opposed to quicktime and that its not so easy to “unwrap” the footage in a non Avid system. Is this true? 

Also when will the new unit be availiable?

Any news on the KiPro Mini DNxHD firmware upgrade?

Thanks a lot Jeff I´m going to try it out and see if it works on my machine. As for getting them installed on a Lion Machine, what I did was on the finder click show content packages and then copy a file called Archive.pax.gz, uncompressed that and there you should find the .component files under Library/Quicktime, copy all of them except the ._intel_ and ._ppc_ and copy them to your Library/quicktime folder and that does the trick apparently. 

Hi Jeff, I can confirm it works that way, the Avid installer produced an error, but copying the codecs manually works on a Lion iMac 27 3.4ghz. I also downloaded a DNxHD (mov) file and opened it with Premiere (after installing the codecs) and it works without a problem.

Pretty ridiculous the upgrade is not simply a firmware update.  This means all original adopters have wasted their money on a product (Hyperdeck Shuttle) that has only one purpose to record uncompressed.  Yes, that is what we knew when we bought it but I certainly thought there would be a simple update done at a later date which would allow for compressed recording.  I’m no expert on these matters but I would like to know why a completely new device needed to be released for this and not simply a firmware update.

Atomos Ninja & Samurai supports DNxHD 220Mbps with HDD. Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 does not, as they stated in email.

“This is not a configuration we are currently testing or supporting. It is still required that a qualified SSD is used with the HyperDeck shuttle for all recording modes.”

The AVID DNxHD MXF files cannot be imported into Premiere – not even with the AVID 2.3.4LE codecs. The Shuttle files can only be used in AVID and maybe FCP.

Thank you for letting me know about the Shuttle 2. I have been trying to decide between the Samurai, shuttle and Pix recorders. Great to know that the shuttle now does DNxHD !

So are you saying that premiere users have to either buy an Avid editor to rewrap as quicktime or just use the uncompressed option?

Can anyone confirm that this can remove a 3:2 pulldown on 1080/24psf HDMI on the fly? The first model did not.
