In addition to some of the new hardware offerings we showcased at NAB, we were also happy to introduce our revamped Digital Media Services department. As Apple Authorized Resellers, we are now able to offer complete post-production turnkey systems. We can also design and engineer multi-camera video switcher fly packs and data management solutions for productions of all sizes. I spoke with Jonathan Epner, the Director of Digital Media Services, and had him explain a few of the new services AbelCine is offering.

While AbelCine is well known for our Sales, Rental and Technical Service departments, you may not know that we also have an in-house product development team. Two of the AbelCine-developed products on display at NAB this year are the UniBob and the Juicebox, which we developed with Frezzi. Watch my video above as I walk you through a system that’s capable of powering essentially any camera platform.

We’ve received a lot of great feed back from our NAB booth tour video, and one of the most inquired about items is our decked out Sony PMW-F3. Some of the new accessories we’re showcasing for the F3 include the new Element Technica 15mm lightweight baseplate that we helped design, as well as a heavy duty top handle that replaces the standard Sony handle. We were also fortunate enough to have the new S-Log 4:4:4RGB firmware that let us take advantage of the new Sony SR-R1 Memory Recorder, which records at 220Mbps or 440 Mbps.

Watch my video to see some of the great accessories we have available for the F3.

I was able to spend some time with the Sound Devices PIX220 and PIX240 video field recorders that Jeff blogged about earlier. Watch my video with Jon Tatooles of Sound Devices as we review the feature-set of this new on-board recorder and see the PIX240 in action.

Cartoni loaned us their new Maxima head for our booth this year, and we were really impressed by how well it performed. With a payload capacity from 0 to 88 lbs, the Maxima is designed for use with large camera systems, but it can also work with much lighter models. It has an extremely smooth counter balance system and can maintain perfect balance through it’s full 180 degree tilt range. We were so impressed that we went over to Cartoni’s booth to learn more about the design. Watch my video above to learn more.

For a while now, it’s felt as though the market for new 35mm PL lenses was relatively slow, as we’ve been using the same lenses for years. With the numerous 35mm PL mount cameras now available for the cinematographer to choose from, we’re happy to see that the lens manufactures have responded with new, exciting lens options. We are fortunate enough to have the new Canon FK14.5-60mm T2.6 wide angle cine-zoom lenses on display at our booth this year, and the response has been great thus far. Canon has also announced a companion lens, the FK30-300mm T2.9-3.7.

Watch my video above as I walk you through some of the features of these two new lenses.
